Welcome to Istanbul

Welcome to Istanbul, the city where East meets West! As a first-time visitor, you're in for a treat with this historic and vibrant city.

As a host of Airbnb, I want to ensure your journey from the airport to your accommodation is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

That's why I've put together this guide for you. It covers everything from transportation to the local customs and culture so that you can make the most of your time here.

Istanbul Airport

When arriving in Istanbul, be prepared for a walk from the airport to baggage claim and customs. Istanbul's airports are pretty large, so wear comfortable shoes.

Here is the link to the Istanbul airport website, Ios, and Android app. Istanbul airport offers 2 hours of free internet connection to travelers.

When it comes to currency, avoid exchanging money at the airport, as the rates can differ from those in the city. Instead, withdraw cash from an ATM using your credit card.

If you need an airport transfer, I can provide this service for you, both regular and VIP. Please get in touch with me before your flight.

Also, avoid buying a SIM card at the airport, as the prices can be unreasonably high. Consider using an eSIM app like Airalo or Truphone instead for a few megabytes of the internet. This will save you money and ensure you have internet access as soon as you land.

Transportation from Airport

When you first arrive in Istanbul, you'll have several options for getting to your accommodation. First, if you're comfortable driving, you can rent a car from one of the major car rental companies with offices in the airport.

You can take a taxi or van if you prefer to have someone else drive. Taxis are available outside the airport terminal.

Another option is to take the metro from the airport to the city center. The metro line is well-connected and runs frequently, and it is relatively cheap, fast, and easy to use.

Alternatively, you can take a bus from the airport to the city center, which is also a good option for budget-conscious travelers.

It would be best if you had IstanbulKart for public transportation. Purchase the IstanbulKart at the airport, at Biletmatik on the bus/service floor of Istanbul Airport.

Once in the city, you can find IstanbulKart at all metro, tram, Metrobus, ferry stations, and nearby kiosks and stores.

Apps you need in Istanbul.

Google Translate

One of the essential apps to have in Istanbul is Google Translate. Unfortunately, not many people speak English in Istanbul. So, a translation app can come in handy for understanding menus, signs, and directions.

I recommended downloading the Turkish language to your device for offline access. Here is how

Google map

I believe checking the traffic and navigation is the best for using the map. Also, download the Istanbul map to access offline.

in turkey, Uber is a "Yellow taxi," but I recommend using Uber to get a taxi for their excellent customer support. Never argue with taxi drivers. Call Uber customer service for any assistance. They are perfect.

Getir is the home delivery of groceries or food from restaurants. Their app supports the English language. They are the best in Istanbul, and you will love the service.

Sim card

Turkey has three significant operators: Turk Telekom, Turkcell, and Vodafone. They all are good. I use Turk Telekom. You can find the nearest store on the map, and take your passport with you. The new Simcart usually comes with 25 Gb of internet. However, your sim card is active only for three months unless you take your residence document to store and convert your sim card from tourist to residence.
